Napier Grass also known as Elephant Grass is a perennial grass which requires warm and moist climate, clay to clay loam soil for good growth. At Animal Breeding Farm, Kals, currently around 30 acres of land is under Napier cultivation. Napier grass is proliferated either by root or stalk after the onset of monsoon (June end to September). It gives 01 or 02 cut per year if only rain fed and can produce green fodder for 4 to 5 years. It contains 8 to 12 % crude protein and 24 to 26 % crude fibre. Napier root stalk is also supplied to different government or non-government firms (as per demand) @ Rs. 400 per quintal.
