Field performance recording under NPCBB in Uttarakhand

Under the National Project for cattle & Buffalo Breeding (NPCBB) and in line with the central governments central Herd Registration Scheme (CHRS) a Field Performance Recording (FPR) program has also been started in Uttarakhand with the objective of identifying elite milk producing cows and buffaloes and registering them in the central Herd Book. The information collected will be listed on the website in order to facilitate the sale & purchase of these animals so that owner is benefited by getting the right price for such animals.
Main Objectives of Field Performance Recording:-

1. To identify & register milch animals of superior germplasm in livestock farms and breeding tracts.
2. To start systematic milk recording in breeding tracts.
3. To develop standards for superior milch animals through the study of the production records thus obtained.
4. To publish general directions and guidelines for the inter farm and inter breeder movement of breeding animals through the compilation of breeding data of all such registered animals.
5. To conduct controlled sale, purchase and import of animals so that maintenance of quality is ensured.
6. The formation of breeder organization so that the breeders can create awareness among themselves for enhancing economic benefit.

As per guidelines of the Government of India and for the implementation of this program in Uttarakhand the state government vide its G.O. No. 214/XI/VA.GRA.VI./P.P./U.L.D.B./2(22.1)/2004 has issued instructions & responsibilities of the line departments- Uttaranchal Development Board, Dairy Development Department, BAIF and Animal Husbandry Department.

Standards for Registration of animals for Field Performance Recording under the central Herd Registration Scheme                  

 Implementation Status:   

• A one day orientation and training program on field performance recording were conducted at Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Hardwar & Dehradun district  for the secretaries of the village diary cooperatives, staff and officers of the district milk union.
• A primary survey & selection of a total of 20630 milch animals has already been carried out (Murrah-486, HF Cross-947, Jersey Cross-430 and other - 198).
• As per directions issued by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Government of India meetings on policy formulations for the field performance program were attended by the Chief Executive Officer & Additional Manager (Breeding) of the U.L.D.B.
• Dr. G.C.Barthwal of the ULDB have been given training at the Central Herd registration scheme at Rohtak.
• A set of 12 registers has been distributed to the milk recorders
• A computer software has been developed to analyze the data submitted by milk recorders
• The milk recorders are recording the milk of cows & buffaloes as per the guidelines of ICAR & CHRS
